Landing at Incheon International Airport for the first time?
Getting to Seoul may look complicated when you see trains, buses, taxis, and different ticket options. But don’t worry — it’s actually pretty simple once you know which option fits your trip.
Here’s how locals would break it down.

1.The Easiest Choice for Most Travelers: AREX
For most first-time visitors, the Airport Railroad (AREX) is one of the easiest ways to travel from Incheon Airport to Seoul.
There are two types of AREX trains:
AREX Express Train
Goes directly to Seoul Station with no stops in between.
AREX All-Stop Train
Stops at several stations on the way to Seoul, including Hongik University (Hongdae).
Which one should you take?
Going to Seoul Station or nearby?
→ The Express Train can be convenient.
Staying around Hongdae?
→ Take the All-Stop Train.
Staying somewhere else in Seoul?
→ Check which subway line connects most easily to your accommodation.
KOREA GO EASY TIP 🇰🇷
Don’t automatically choose the Express Train just because it says “Express.” Depending on where your hotel is, the All-Stop Train may actually be more convenient.
2. Airport Bus: Great If It Stops Near Your Hotel
Airport buses are another convenient option, especially if you have large luggage.
Instead of transferring between subway lines with your suitcase, you may be able to take a bus that stops close to your hotel.
Look for the Airport Bus / Limousine Bus signs inside the airport.
You can check your destination and buy a ticket before boarding.
KOREA GO EASY TIP 🇰🇷
If your hotel is close to an airport bus stop, the bus can be easier than the train — especially after a long flight.
3. Taxi: The Most Comfortable Option
If you have several suitcases, are traveling with children, or arrive late at night, a taxi may be the easiest option.
Follow the official Taxi signs outside the terminal and use the designated taxi stand.
Avoid accepting transportation offers from people approaching you inside the airport.
You can show the driver your hotel name and address on your phone.
Useful tip:
Keep the hotel address written in Korean if possible. It makes communication much easier.
4. Arriving Late at Night?
This is something many first-time visitors forget to check.
Trains and airport buses do not operate 24 hours a day.
If your flight lands very late, your transportation choices may be limited depending on the time you finish immigration and collect your luggage.
Before your trip, check the last train or bus for your arrival date.
If you miss the last public transportation option, a taxi may be necessary.
5. Buy a Transportation Card Early
If you plan to use Seoul’s subway and buses during your trip, getting a transportation card early will make traveling much easier.
A T-money card can be used on most public transportation in Korea.
You can usually buy one at convenience stores and transportation facilities.
You’ll use it again once you start traveling around Seoul, so it’s worth getting familiar with it from the beginning.
6. Which Option Should You Choose?
Here’s the simple version:
Going to Seoul Station?
→ AREX Express
Going to Hongdae?
→ AREX All-Stop Train
Airport bus stops near your hotel?
→ Airport Bus
Lots of luggage / children / late-night arrival?
→ Taxi
There is no single “best” way to get from Incheon Airport to Seoul.
The best option is the one that gets you closest to where you actually need to go with the least hassle.
7. Apps That Make the Trip Easier
Google Maps is useful for many things in Korea, but for detailed public transportation and local navigation, Korean map apps can be more useful.
Two apps worth having are:
Naver Map
KakaoMap
Both can help you check subway routes, bus stops, travel times, and walking directions.
Download at least one before your trip.
8. One Last Local Tip
After a long flight, don’t worry about finding the absolute cheapest transportation option.
Saving a small amount of money isn’t always worth carrying heavy luggage through several subway transfers.
In Korea, the easiest route is often the better route.
That’s exactly what KOREA GO EASY is about — helping you travel Korea with less confusion and more confidence.
